چکیده
Background: The present study was undertaken to estimate the 5’-nucleotidase enzyme in chronic hepatitis B and alcoholics. The oxidative stress, antioxidants and their correlation with 5’-nucleotidase was also included in this study. Methods: The blood samples of 25 subjects (age and sex matched) each from group I (control), group II (alcoholic) and group III (chronic hepatitis B) was taken and centrifuged for separation of plasma for analysis of 5’-nucleotidase. The separated cells were washed thrice with 0.9 % w/v cold normal saline and used for the analysis of glutathione, malondialdehyde and superoxide dismutase. Results: The activity of serum 5’nucleotidase was significantly increased in both chronic hepatitis B and alcoholics. The levels of malondialdehyde were also significantly increased in both chronic hepatitis B and alcoholic patients. The levels of glutathion and superoxide dismutase were significantly decreased in both chronic hepatitis B and alcoholics. Conclusions: From these findings it was concluded that the activity of serum 5’nucleotidase rises consistently in chronic hepatitis B and alcoholics according to the extent of liver damage, hepatobiliary damage, and biliary stasis and can be a useful marker for diagnosis of hepatobiliay disorders.

Serum prolidase activity and oxidant–antioxidant status in children with chronic hepatitis B virus infection
BACKGROUND Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) is a global health problem that can result in serious complications associated with collagen degradation. Prolidase is a specific imidodipeptidase that plays an important role in the breakdown of collagen. The aim of this study was to investigate prolidase activity and oxidant-antioxidant status in children with CHB. METHODS This prospective case control s...
متن کاملIncreased oxidative stress associated with the severity of the liver disease in various forms of hepatitis B virus infection
BACKGROUND Oxidative stress can be defined as an increase in oxidants and/or a decrease in antioxidant capacity. There is limited information about the oxidative status in subjects with hepatitis B virus infection. We aimed to evaluate the oxidative status in patients with various clinical forms of chronic hepatitis B infection. METHODS Seventy-six patients with hepatitis B virus infection, i...

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to evaluate oxidative stress in various clinical forms of hepatitis B infection and to investigate its role in the development of the chronic form of the disease. METHODS Ninety-three patients with inactive hepatitis B surface antigen (HbsAg) carrier state (IHBCS), 65 patients with chronic hepatitis B infection (CHB), and 42 healthy adults were included in...
متن کاملسطح آنتیاکسیدانها و میزان تغییرات کلسیم و pH خون در بیماران همودیالیزی
Background: The risk of atherosclerosis and cancer is high in hemodialysis (HD) patients. There is evidence that HD causes oxidative stress. However, the causative factors of oxidative stress are unknown. It has been suggested that HD imposes an additional oxidative stress on patients with chronic renal failure by activation of granulocytes on dialyzer membranes resulting in an imbalance betwee...
